Frequently Asked Questions

How Does Fundraising Work?

Spring Hill Parents for Kids partners with sports and entertainment venues to provide volunteer support for concession and event operations. When volunteers work an event, the venue makes a donation to Spring Hill Parents for Kids in recognition of the services provided.

Each event generates funds based on the venue’s donation structure, along with any applicable tips earned during the event. All funds are tracked by event and venue and are distributed evenly among the volunteers who worked that specific event. Funds are not shared across different venues or events.

How Does Spring Hill Earn Funds?

Spring Hill Parents for Kids partners with various venues to provide volunteer concession services. In exchange for volunteer support, the organization receives donations from each venue.

Each venue operates under a separate contract, and payment structures may vary by venue and season.

Who Can Participate?

Spring Hill Parents for Kids is open to families, individuals, and community members who want to support children through volunteer service.

Participants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older (or have a parent/guardian participate on behalf of a minor). 16 year olds can participate at: private catering events and the University of Nebraska.

  • Be able to meet venue-specific requirements, which may include background checks, food safety training, alcohol service training, and required permits

  • Complete all required orientation, policies, and waiver documentation

  • Commit to volunteering in a professional, reliable, and respectful manner

Families may volunteer together, and funds earned may be used to support educational and extracurricular opportunities for children, including academics, arts, athletics, 4-H, agricultural programs, and other youth-development activities.

No prior experience is required—training is provided. Participation is based on volunteer availability, venue needs, and compliance with program and venue policies.

Spring Hill welcomes committed volunteers who are able to prioritize participation with our organization. To ensure we meet our contractual obligations and staffing needs, new volunteers may not be actively volunteering with other nonprofit fundraising groups. Existing volunteers who participate with multiple organizations are expected to prioritize Spring Hill when scheduled.

How Are Donations & Tips Handled?

For each event:

  • All donation pay, credit card tips, and cash tips are collected. All cash tips must be turned in to the group leads at the event.

  • Funds are split evenly among volunteers working that specific venue and event.

  • Funds are not combined or shared across different venues.Your account is credited only for the event(s) you volunteer for.

  • Volunteers receive the full earned amount — Spring Hill does not deduct administrative or processing fees.

What Do I Need To Know About Reimbursements & Taxes?

  • Volunteers are responsible for keeping all receipts for reimbursed expenses for seven (7) years.

  • These records must be available if Spring Hill is audited.

  • Expenses reimbursed by Spring Hill may NOT be claimed as tax deductions.

    • Example: If Spring Hill reimburses you for college tuition, that tuition cannot also be claimed as a tax deduction.

  • It is the volunteer’s responsibility to ensure they do not “double dip” by claiming deductions for reimbursed expenses.
